Symphony New Brunswick Foundation
Building the Symphony’s Future Symphony New Brunswick Foundation is an independent charity that serves as an endowment fund for Symphony New Brunswick. The Foundation’s goal is to reduce the Symphony’s dependence on annual gift-giving by itself giving an increasing percentage of the funds needed for the Symphony’s annual operating budget. The Foundation holds a pool of financial assets in perpetuity, the earnings from which are given annually to the Symphony. As this pool of assets grows, more is earned and more can be given, thereby enabling the Symphony itself to grow and flourish. As an example, approximately 40% of the Boston Symphony’s annual budget is paid by its endowment fund. For now, our goals are more modest, but the Foundation has already become the Symphony’s largest private sector donor. The Foundation’s six-member Board of Directors includes senior members of New Brunswick’s business community with the requisite skills to advise the Symphony in planning its future, raising funds and managing a large financial portfolio. The Foundation works hard to avoid "cannibalizing" donations needed by the Symphony for its annual operating campaign but there are always situations and circumstances where a gift to the Foundation makes sense.
